Harvard Business Review has this great articles summarising what coaches can do for you.
Most of all I agree with their recommendation that high-performers benefit most from coaching. "Blamers, victims, and individuals with iron-clad belief systems don’t change" they say.
I do believe that people can change, and I agree with the principle: generally there isn't the permission to move in and play with someone's belief systems and get them to change - and there are many ecological concerns about coaches who do so! So yes, coaching is the ideal tool for executives who want to learn and grow!

I think that particularly in today's economic climate that companies who are proactive in supporting their people through coaching, position themselves more strongly for when the economy recovers. Which means that they retain their key staff and knowledge holders.
